A further significant shortening of saccade duration (~22%) occurred when working on a 47% slope. The mean duration of saccades when working on a 23% slope was 5% shorter compared to work under a 9% gradient. Similarly, fixation duration increased with slope gradient. The number of fixations during the performance of all tasks increased with the increasing slope gradient. The duration, frequency and trajectory of eye movements were used to determine the harvester operatorâs mental workload, on the assumption that worsening work conditions would be reflected by increased eyeball activity. Measurements of eye activity were obtained from a representative harvester operator working in corridors with the following mean inclinations: 9%, 23% and 47%. Within such a context, the aim of this study was to gauge aggravations of mental workload derived from increasing slope gradient. As these machines are being used under increasingly difficult terrain conditions, further knowledge is required on the expected aggravation of operatorsâ mental workload, so that suitable work/rest schedules can be developed. The use of modern multi-functional forestry machines has already been associated with central nervous system fatigue induced by high mental workload. It significantly increases reliability of hydraulic drive elements and efficiency of manipulator-type machines in forestry complex. The aim (reduction of dynamic loads) is achieved by optimizing the configuration of the boom lift cylinders and the parameters of new damper. The minimum of maximum values of the working fluid pressure is achieved when the damper throttle channel diameters are in the range of 4.0–4.5 mm. Connecting a new damper reduces the maximum pressure in the piston cavity of the hydraulic cylinder by 47%. It takes into account the forces of inertia and compliance of hydraulic drive. The optimal position of the hydraulic cylinder, in which the fluid pressure is reduced from 12.4 MPa to 11.3 MPa, has been found.
